Las Cab Neighborhood Overview
In the early years, Las Caballeras, also known as Las Cab, strived to provide many neighborhood events, such as International Thinking Days, Sing-a-longs, and Camporees. We still provide these events for today girls. In the beginning, adults planned the events. As the skill and experience of the girls have grown, these events are now planned, and are run entirely by Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. In the early 1980s, seeing the need to provide a summer opportunity for the girls in Las Cab Neighborhood, Summer Serendipity was added to the Girl Scouts Spanish Trails Council Summer Camp program. This camp is still running and gives girls of all ages the chance to learn and share their leadership skills. In May of 1991, Las Caballeras Neighborhood celebrated its 25th anniversary, with an Outdoor Affair. Over 1,000 girls and adults attended this all level, weekend event, which included singing, camping, crafts and collecting items for a time capsule. Through the years, Girl Scouts in Las Cab have been visible in the communities of Diamond Bar and Walnut by participating in local parades, providing flag ceremonies for city council meetings, collecting food for the local food banks and providing service whenever called upon. Las Caballeras Neighborhood continues to work towards giving every interested girl the opportunity to participate in the Girl Scout program. |
