WHAT IS A GIRL SCOUT LEADER?

The leader is of great importance to the group of girls with whom she works. She sets the tone for the group, keeps things organized, and helps to create the fun. It is a big and very rewarding job. Leadership of a Girl Scout group means mentoring girls, understanding them, and being willing to work toward growth and development.

The leader performs a variety of functions to manage a group of girls and establish working relationship with other adults.

  2. Organizing
  3. Motivating
  4. Coordinating
  5. Reviewing

All adults working with the group must understand that, in addition physical abuse, verbal abuse, and emotional maltreatment, failing to provide adequate safety measures and supervision to a girl entrusted to their care my be considered child abuse.


A GIRL SCOUT LEADER MUST:

Have Good Judgment
- Good judgment and common sense often dictate what is safe and appropriate activity. Adults must determine the degree of care required according to the child's age and skill and the nature of the activity.

Supervise Girls - Leaders and other adults who agree to accompany a group on a trip must be willing to supervise the group and the individual girls. Let girls act for themselves unless they are endangering themselves or others. Be patient. Lsten, ask questions, and help to solve problems.

Provide Discipline - Have a discipline plan. Have the girls come up with their own list of do's and don'ts with important extras from you. Know how to deal with your daughter in a way that allows her to feel that she is part of the group.

Provide An Environment Where -

Set an Example - The Girl Scout leader has the most contact with the girls, as well as the most impact on them. The Girl Scout leader is responsible for safeguarding girls' health and for instilling in them the sense of safe living. To accomplish these goals, all leaders must:
